If you are the type of person who doesn't mind having a cluttered home, skip right past this post. If you hate having even the smallest space in your room somewhat disorganized, like me, I've got your back. I have four shelves in my bedroom that have the most random things on them- photo albums, Christmas decorations, (I know, crazy, right? It's the end of August...) and other things that just don't have a home. I also have a bunch of other spots in my room AND my bathroom that have disorganized body products lying around (lotions, shower gels, creams, hair products, perfume). So, today I'll be showing you how to organize those kinds of products so that they are all in one place, maybe on a shelf (like how I'm doing) or in your bathroom. Either way, let's get started!
Here is a before/after shot of my two sets of shelves:
When it comes to cleaning/organizing, I'm sure you've heard that it ("it" being the shelves) has to get messier before it gets cleaner. I first took everything off the shelves and cleaned them, since they had gotten pretty dusty.
Once the area is empty, you want to take whatever you'll be organizing (in my case, body and hair products) and organize those things into categories. For example, I organized my products into shower gels, lotions, perfumes, hair products, etc. Here's what it looked like:
Crazy, right? Only when I laid out all of the products did I realize how much I had (in my defense, it was my birthday the day before I did this so I received a ton of Bath & Body Works products). Then, I took each category and either put it into little organizers that I have or just put them on the shelf. Here are some examples of things I put into organizers:
Top left: rollerball perfume, organizer from Staples
Top right: hand sanitizers, organizer unknown
Bottom left: body lotions, organizer from Container Store
Bottom right: perfume samples, mason jar from Bed, Bath & Beyond
Once you have everything organized, it's time to actually put everything away! This is the fun part because you can organize them in any way you want, from color to product to size to most used. Have fun and make sure all products are accessible!
And last but not least, here are some last-minute tips to help you declutter your bedroom:
1. If you want organizers like the ones I used in this post, buy cheap ones. You don't need anything fancy, and if it breaks, it's ok because it wasn't super expensive.
2. When you decide to organize a portion of your room/a category of things, give yourself a couple of hours. I thought it would take me an hour at the most to do this project, but in reality I spent almost 3.
3. Take your time when doing this! You want the end result to be something accessible and nice to look at if you have to. Don't rush the process; you'll probably end up annoyed and won't finish.
I hope this helps any of you who are in desperate need of decluttering that one corner of your room or the drawer in your bathroom. It definitely helped me!
